Impactful Devolution 01: A new framework for inclusive local growth and national renewal

First published on Future Governance Forum.

With 60% of the English population covered by some form of devolution deal, mayors and local leaders are already making big strides in driving local growth. But to truly seize the opportunities of the coming decade and ensure they are felt locally, leaders need two things:

  1. The powers and levers to shape their place’s economic destiny

  2. A government that works in concert with them in a national partnership for growth and renewal

Published in partnership with Future Governance Forum, Impactful Devolution 01 offers a programme of initiatives that would help deliver the government’s ambitious missions and drive local growth in every corner of the UK.

Written by Ben Lucas and Lizi Hopkins, the report builds on Gordon Brown’s Commission on the UK’s Future, setting out how Labour can deliver on its devolution commitments in its first term, while laying the groundwork for a more last shift of power over a second.
