Matthew has over 10 years’ experience supporting place-based strategies and understanding the relationship between local communities and economies. A former Director of the Institute of Place Management, he has worked with all levels of UK government and national sectoral groups to shape place policy and helps local authorities and place leaders to react to emerging trends, shaping better towns and cities for all.

Matthew was part of the leadership team of the High Streets Task Force, commissioned by the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government to support 151 local authorities in England to identify and overcome barriers to transformation. Previously, Matthew has also worked in place-based knowledge transfer and innovation roles, specifically with the digital and advanced materials sectors, and has also supported government to understand the social impact of its procurement and global supply chains.
